Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to the United States, is set to address an Indian community event in New York on Sunday. Members of the Indian community chanted ‘Modi, Modi’ as they awaited PM Modi at the Long Island event titled ‘Modi and US’.
The Nassau Coliseum was abuzz ahead of the event as Indians holding ‘Welcome Modi’ posters in various languages gathered. Groups of artists also performed traditional Indian dance forms at the venue. More than 500 artists are set to showcase their talents as the event unfolds.
The Prime Minister arrived in New York earlier today after attending the Quad Leaders’ meeting in Delaware, hosted by President Joe Biden on Saturday.
Sharing his excitement over the Indian Community event on Saturday, PM Modi tweeted, “The Indian community has distinguished itself in the USA, making a positive impact across diverse sectors. It’s always a delight to interact with them”.
“At around 9:30 PM India time on Sunday, 22nd September, I will address the Modi and US programme in New York City. Let’s celebrate the bonds that connect our nations!,” he said.
The Quad Leaders’ Summit took place on Saturday in US President Biden’s hometown, Wilmington, where several topics ranging from security cooperation to technology sharing were discussed. During the Summit, the Prime Minister stressed rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty, in a veiled reference to China.
Along with Prime Minister Modi, the summit was attended by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, with whom PM Modi also held one-on-one discussions.
He also addressed a Cancer Moonshot event, an initiative aimed at enhancing measures to combat cervical cancer, hosted by Biden on the sidelines of the Quad Summit.
On Monday, the Prime Minister will address the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
PM Modi’s other engagements include participating in a roundtable with CEOs of American firms working on cutting-edge technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
Former US President Donald Trump announced that he would meet PM Modi. However, it has not been confirmed by either side.
